Shaker Harmonica Microphones

THE
DYNAMIC SHAKER |
The
Dynamic Shaker sounds thick and hot. A sax player would call it
a "Brown Sound". It puts the thunder in your hand. It’s output is higher than the Crystal Shaker. It is a blues and rock sound. It also has very good feedback rejection. |
THE
CRYSTAL SHAKER |
||
The
Crystal Shaker is a Hi-Z mic with more of an accurate sound, with less
coloration. Some call it cleaner. Many players who do a lot of delta blues
and country blues like the crystal’s sound. This mic has fantastic feedback rejection. If feedback is a problem, most players find the Crystal Shaker to be the answer. |
THE
MADCAT SHAKER |
||
With
the Shaker Madcat you can, for the first time, mike the natural wah-wah
sound of a harmonica from inside your cupped hands. The Shaker Madcat
Microphone has a unique new design which enables you to amplify not only
the sound of the harp, but all the hand-shaped tones usually associated
with acoustic hannonica playing. The new Shaker Madcat microphone picks
up all of the sounds produced within the variable acoustic chamber created
by your cupped hands. While cupping a Shaker Madcat you can easily control
the volume with a conveniently placed volume control. The Madcat model
doesn’t look like any other microphone. It doesn’t respond like any other
microphone ever produced. It is a totally new approach to harmonica amplification.
The design is radical, the shape is functionally perfect, the technology
is typical Shaker--way ahead of the rest.. The Shaker Madcat is a dual
chamber acoustically vented dynamic microphone which produces the tonal
warmth and timbre only a dynamic mic can give you. |
What
you need to know about Shaker Harmonica Microphones |
||
| THE CASE | The microphone is a thermo injected resin which is acoustically inert. This reduces handling noise. Other advantages are: it is light, impact resistant, and resists heat transfer. The crystal weighs 3.25 ounces, the dynamic 4 ounces. | |
| CONNECTOR | The Shaker gives you a choice of output connectors. The XLR is a high quality switchcraft panel mount unit for the traditional 3 pin hook up. It is wired Pin 2 hot. The 1/4" jack is "the thing" for guitar cord. No special cord is needed. It’s great for players who go around jamming put it in your pocket and go. It’s real light, and there will probably be a guitar cord there for your use. | |
| SOUND | The Crystal Shaker is a Hi-Z mic with more of an accurate sound, with less coloration. Some call it cleaner. Yet with the characteristic crystal attick, it can be played very hot and with a cutting edge. We find players who do a lot of delta blues and country blues like the crystal’s sound. This mic has fantastic feedback rejection. If feedback is a problem, most players find the Crystal Shaker to be the answer. | |
| TECHNIQUE | The Shaker mics are technique sensitive, which means that your technique can affect the way the mic sounds. Because of the Shaker’s unique case, you can actually increase the static pressure on the element, thus altering its tone. | |
| VOLUME CONTROL | The volume control on both models (the dynamic or crystal traditional mics) is a steel case unit with a compression ridge on the shaft. It also has 11 micro detent that can be slightly felt as you turn the knob. The output on the Crystal Shaker is adjusted lower to allow the player to run his amp higher for better tone. When your amp is cranked to 9, it sounds better than on 2 1/2. | |
| SUMMARY | All Shaker microphones were developed in the bars and clubs, not in a laboratory. The Shaker sound is NOT a copy of anything. It was developed by harp players by ear, not by high tech gear. The Shaker was designed to be played into amps, but many players have found they work extremely well right into the board. Technicians in recording studios love the Shaker. All Shaker mics are hand-built right here in the U.S.A. | |
